Small parts, big power! Uncovering the Mysteries of Fuel Injectors

Excellent engines usually have a right-hand assistant - an injector

It can not only help the engine maximize energy efficiency, but also reduce fuel consumption and environmental pollution. What is the secret of such a magical part?

Listen to Brother Kang reveal the secret to you:

The injector is a precision machine with very high processing accuracy. The Cummins injector adopts leading technology. It has a "small" body and is a very smart "shooter".

Different injectors can be applied to various types of engines according to the type of injected fuel. How do they work in diesel, natural gas, hydrogen internal combustion engines and hydrogen fuel cells?

Diesel engine

The injector solenoid valve injection in a diesel engine consists of a body, an injector and a needle valve. In the diesel engine cylinder, the air is compressed by the upward movement of the piston. When the piston approaches the combustion chamber, an electrical signal is sent to the solenoid valve. At this time, the solenoid valve A strong magnetic field will be generated to lift the needle valve, allowing the fuel to flow through the injector and enter the combustion chamber to be fully mixed with air. Because the compression stroke will generate high temperatures, the air and fuel in the combustion chamber will automatically ignite after mixing to generate power.

So, where does the fuel for the injector come from? They come from the high-pressure oil path and flow to the injector through the channel. Because the fuel pressure increases, the reliability and precision of the injector are required to be higher. Cummins injectors can Delivers fuel up to 2600bar to ensure stable and efficient engine operation

natural gas engine

The working principle of a natural gas engine is similar to that of a diesel engine. The difference is that a spark plug is used in the combustion process of a natural gas engine, and natural gas as fuel is usually compressed and stored in a gas storage bottle.

When the natural gas engine is working, the compressed natural gas in the gas storage bottle needs to be adjusted to the appropriate level through the pressure regulating valve. When the natural gas injector receives the electrical signal, it will inject an accurately measured mixture of natural gas and air (a single unit currently widely used). Point injection technology), then allows the mixed gas to enter the cylinder, and uses the electric spark generated by the spark plug to ignite the mixed gas during the compression process, thereby generating power

Hydrogen internal combustion engine

Cummins hydrogen internal combustion engine is the star product of Cummins multi-fuel engine platform. Although most parts are common with diesel and natural gas engines, they have specific requirements for regulating and injecting fuel.

Because hydrogen is easier to ignite than diesel in the combustion chamber, hydrogen internal combustion engines may have "pre-ignition" and "backfire" problems, which affect engine performance. To avoid this problem, you need to use direct injection technology when the intake valve is closed. The hydrogen is then injected directly into the cylinder (rather than the intake manifold or intake port) through a direct injection system to avoid backfire.
