Cummins launches innovative next-generation X15 diesel engine
2024/3/11

Cummins (High Efficiency, Lower emission, Multiple fuel) HELM™ 15-liter diesel engine X15 will comply with U.S. EPA and CARB 2027 regulations at launch. The next generation X15 diesel engine will serve the heavy-duty highway market.

The next-generation advanced diesel X15 will maintain the same legacy of reliability and lower operating costs as the first X15 in 1998 to meet the needs of a diverse customer segment, reduce greenhouse gas emissions and optimize fuel efficiency, while maintaining the same characteristics as the current X15. ratings (up to 605 horsepower and 2780N.m of torque) and optimized for powertrain integration with Eaton Cummins and Cummins-Meritor

Cummins HELM™ Engine Platform

The engine is built on Cummins' HELM™ multi-fuel 15-liter engine platform, and these engine versions are derived from a common base engine, meaning they share certain components. Each engine's underhead gasket components will have largely similar components, while the overhead gasket components will use different components for different fuel types. Each engine version will run on a different single fuel. The natural gas model X15N is the first engine on the Cummins HELM™ platform to be available to customers. Cummins HELM™ platforms include B, X10 and X15 engine platforms.

Cummins-Eaton Power Systems

The Eaton Endurant HD and XD Series are optimized for the next-generation X15 powertrain and work seamlessly to increase efficiency and performance while maintaining driver comfort. All feature industry-leading transmission oil change intervals of up to 1.2 million kilometers and remote diagnostic capabilities

Cummins-Meritor transmission system

The Cummins-Meritor 14X™ HE inline transaxle is designed for maximum performance, durability and fuel economy. They are equipped with the proprietary advanced Meritor Lubricant Management System (MLMS) and feature ultra-fast ratio options, fuel-efficient bearings and high-efficiency spiral bevel gearing. Cummins-Meritor Permalube™ RPL drivetrains are designed to reduce maintenance and meet the high torque demands of today's low-speed engine platforms.

Low carbon diesel fuel

Consistent with the Cummins diesel engine portfolio, the new X15 is capable of operating on up to 20% biodiesel blends and up to 100% renewable diesel blends. Cummins was an early adopter of renewable fuels and continues to advance the use of higher biodiesel blends and renewable diesel. and are readily available in today's fueling infrastructure
